A new demand management strategy to reduce car use is to go to cabinet shortly, with recommendations around higher parking charges in city centres, reallocating road space, removing parking spaces, and low-emissions zones.

The demand management strategy was instigated last year by Eamon Ryan, the minister for transport, in an effort to reduce car use in urban centres and help reach the country’s transport climate targets.
