Consumers spent €25 million on Easter eggs

Irish shoppers spent €24.6 million on Easter eggs this year, according to new figures from Kantar.

The spend on the chocolate eggs was up €9.3 million on last year.

Retailers have been bumping up promotional activity during Easter with just over half (51 per cent) sold on special offer, according to the research company.

In addition, consumers spent €1.1 million on hot cross buns, up 28 per cent year-on-year, it said.
