Complaint lodged with European regulator over ‘anti-competitive’ deposit return scheme

Correspondence seen by the Business Post shows the Irish Petrol Retailers Association raised concerns

The European Commission has asked the IPRA to supply more information so it can assess if the scheme could lead to discriminatory consequences.

A competition complaint in relation to the deposit return scheme has been lodged with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition.

The complaint, lodged by the Irish Petrol Retailers Association (IPRA), has asked the European Commission to review whether the scheme is “anti-competitive” and results in “a restriction on the free movement of goods”.
