Cash still king? Cards and online banking dominate consumer spending

New data from the BPFI shows €22.7 billion was spent via debit or credit card in Q2 alone

Credit and debit cards dominate consumer spending as the volume of cheque transfers has halved since 2018, according to the Banking & Payments Federation Ireland (BPFI).

Over 73 million payments were made through online and mobile banking, new data from the BPFI has shown, a 60 per cent jump compared with 2018.
