Paddy Cosgrave has resigned from the Web Summit, he confirmed on Saturday, after comments he made about Israel prompted a raft of Big Tech companies to pull out of the conference he co-founded.

Cosgrave, the conference’s chief executive, said his recent comments on Israel had caused “hurt” and become a “distraction”.

“I am resigning as chief executive of Web Summit with immediate effect,” he said in a statement.
