Anti-gay politician to speak during papal visit

An Italian politician whose nomination for the position of European commissioner was blocked because of his controversial comments on homosexuality and women will be among the speakers taking part in events around the Pope’s visit to Ireland.

Rocco Buttiglione is patron of a think-tank, the Dignitatis Humanae Institute, which aims to “support politicians to speak out in defence of Christian values”. It is supported by former strategist to Donald Trump, Stephen Bannon.
