Amgen to scale back plan for €1bn Waterford campus

US biotech company will not need the large campus proposed by Horizon, which it is in the process of acquiring

It has emerged that Amgen still wants to build a new biotech facility in Ireland, but has no need for the full campus originally planned by Horizon

Amgen, the biotech giant, is to scale back its planned €1 billion campus in Waterford following its acquisition of Horizon Therapeutics, the Business Post understands.

The US drug company is understood to be assessing plans to reduce the investment to a stand-alone €400 million facility, which will either be located in Waterford city or at the company’s existing site in Dún Laoghaire, Co Dublin.
