Aeroflot, the Russian state airline, claims it has bought ten Boeing 777 planes from an Irish company in a move that could have major implications for Irish aircraft stranded in Russia.

There are strict EU sanctions in place to ban the sale of aircraft to Russian companies. But Aeroflot has been able to complete the purchase of the Boeing 777 jets using an exemption in the EU sanctions.
