British Ambassador “taking a break” from Twitter over online abuse
The British ambassador to Ireland has said he is “taking a break” from Twitter after suffering abuse online amid Ireland’s ongoing neutrality debate.
Paul Johnston, who has served as Britain’s ambassador to Ireland since 2020, cited receiving abuse about his nationality as the reason for his departure.
He tweeted that “a number of us have been subject to abuse, on the basis of opinion, gender or in my case nationality”.
