The first glimmer of good news since the Hamas attack of October 7 came on Friday when the first tranche of 13 Israeli hostages, whose ages ranged from two to 87 years, were released along with ten hostages from Thailand and one Filipino.

In Washington, it brought some respite from the mounting criticism of US President Joe Biden’s handling of the crisis.
