Ground rent buyout bill could become law by Christmas

Businesses who are paying ground rents to landlords due to Ireland’s colonial past could be given the right to buy them out before Christmas.

A private bill to update the law has secured cross-party support and passed committee stage in 20 minutes in the Dáil last week. It promises to deliver vital certainty to businesses fearful of expanding due to the threat of their ground-rent bills being hiked up.
