Government sources say €1.6bn tax ruling could ‘spook’ multinationals

The Revenue Commissioners’ ruling that pharmaceutical giant Perrigo must pay more than €1.6 billion in back taxes has raised fears that multinationals could be “spooked” by the case.

Government sources told this newspaper that the tax assessment, which is the second largest in Irish history after the Apple case, could send reverberations through the multinational sector, with companies likely to examine the implications of the ruling for their own tax affairs.
