Businesses are calling for the introduction of a PRSI “material” rebate scheme to ease cost pressures on SMEs and low margin firms.

The government is devising a €60 million plan to raise the entry threshold to the higher rate of employers PRSI, which is expected to be announced next month.

However, Ibec, the country’s largest employers group, has said Simon Harris should go further, and has called for the introduction of a new rebate scheme on PRSI taxes for businesses that have a large number of low-wage employees.
