Far from plain: Guinness price hike central to Diageo strategy for star performer

The British drinks giant has hiked the price of its beers three times in the last year and further increases could be on the way

The latest hike from Diageo means the price of a pint of Guinness is now 22c more than it was last year, with the company blaming rising costs across its supply chain

A curious sign appeared outside the door of a Galway city pub this week.

The message, scrawled on a chalkboard, wasn’t advertising lunchtime specials or encouraging passing tourists to come in and sample some of Galway’s famous traditional music.
