Explainer: Can Ireland really build 50,000 homes a year?

The Business Post asked a range of developers and industry analysts if new housing targets can be met

The government is trying to turbo charge the residential sector to produce more than 50,000 homes a year.

Last year, around 32,600 were built, so there is a big gap to bridge.

Large amounts of zoned land are not serviced with electricity and water and barely enough planning permissions are granted annually to meet a 40,000 a year target.
