Spain on a knife-edge as voters go to the polls

As the Spanish electorate heads to the polls today for a general election, there is a sudden interest in Madrid in what happened in Lisbon after the general election on October 4, 2015. There, despite being the biggest party, the centre-right Partido Social Democrata was put out of office by a coalition of three parties whose allegiances had little in common, apart from a desire to remove the incumbent.
