Election 2016: FF may regret candidate strategy in Limerick

Fianna Fáil’s national success was replicated in Limerick, where the party comfortably took the first seats in both constituencies.

Traditional poll topper Willie O’Dea regained the title after he secured almost 13,000 first preference votes in Limerick city, bringing him substantially over the required quota.

When questioned about the resurgence of his popularity given his sizeable first preference vote he insisted his popularity was “ever new-found”.
