A new musical version of Frank McCourt’s memoir of a miserable Limerick childhood is being brought to stage by an ambitious young director, writes Luke O’Reilly
When Thom Southerland tells people that he’s directing a musical adaptation of Angela’s Ashes it’s usually received with “How on earth do you even go about doing that?” It’s a fair question and one that Southerland is eager to answer.
“The story concerns the depths of what a human emotion can go through. It has a certain rhythm and a passion to it, and there’s so much music in the book as well. ...
