Twenty Irish women who challenged the status quo, fought for equal rights and changed society have been commemorated in a new book

‘It is important,” writes Sabina Higgins in the preface to Rocking the System, “that we remember the women who refused to accept a world where they were considered to be of less importance, and to have fewer rights than men. They were women who not only wanted a more equal world for themselves and other women, but a more equal world for all those who were poor or oppressed or treated with great injustice.”
