While social media networks are often criticised, Ireland’s recent history shows they can be harnessed as a force for good, write Michael Sanders and Shibeal O’Flaherty

If you read a newspaper, keep up with current events, watch the latest Ted Talks or indeed are really alive in any way, your view of social media networks - the likes of Facebook, Twitter and so on - is likely to be pretty dim.
