The Fall of the House of Maxwell, Tomorrow, 9pm, BBC Two

With Ghislaine Maxwell awaiting sentencing in late June, this new three-part series focuses on the family in which she grew up. Her father Robert Maxwell (born Ján Ludvík Hyman Binyamin Hoch) escaped the Nazis in his native Czechoslovakia and reached England where he joined the Czech army in exile and attained the rank of captain, subsequently winning the Military Cross.

He became a Labour MP for a period in the 1960s and built up an empire that began with Pergamon Press and led to ownership of Mirror Group Newspapers and Macmillan, with diverse interests in everything from broadcast media to football clubs to water parks. There was always something of the night about Maxwell, and after his mysterious death in the sea off his yacht the Lady Ghislaine in 1991, he was found to have plundered the Mirror Group pension fund for millions to fend off bankruptcy.
