My Week: Glass Mask theatre’s Rex Ryan on not giving a f**k about reviews – except his daughter’s

The only review that an artistic director should concern themselves with is that of the most influential and important critic in the house - my nine year old daughter

We opened an excellent production (I’m biased, remember) of Country Music by world-renowned playwright Simon Stephens this week at my theatre company Glass Mask and the thing is rock and roll. The Arts Review and the Independent gave it five stars. So did my daughter. It’s a play about working class Dublin, the inadequacies of the prison system and mistakes versus fate. Real people are coming into Glass Mask, not just theatre ...
