Ó Riada prizewinner pays homage to rock star Rory Gallagher

The music-composition contest has been running for over 50 years, providing a platform for composers across a wide area of genres

The winner of this year’s Seán Ó Riada composition competition is the Irish-Welsh musician Anselm McDonnell.

Entitled simply Gallagher, it pays homage to the music of Rory Gallagher, the legendary rock and blues guitarist and singer from Belfast.

In the past ten years, nearly 250 compositions have been submitted and winners have included some of the most famous names in music’s creative arena, including Rhona Clarke, Michael McGlynn, Kevin O’Connell and Frank Corcoran.
