Eithne Shortall: Drug use is rampant. We should legalise most of it
The only people who benefit from the status quo are the criminal gangs who have gained immense wealth and power from selling it
A few Friday afternoons ago, cycling home from Dublin city, my son and I interrupted two drug deals. We’re not trying to carry out sting operations. This is just a side effect of him being four and thus having to cycle, ever so slowly, on the footpath.
The first bust was on a grey street in the city itself. Only it wasn’t much of a bust because the pair weren’t trying to hide anything.
