If you’re already familiar with Colin Barrett, and you really should have a go at his two short story collections Young Skins and Homesickness, especially the marvellous cops-and-culchies caper A Shooting In Rathreedane, then you’re on safe ground with his debut novel Wild Houses. In fact he only travels seven-odd miles across Mayo from Rathreedane to the town of Ballina.
