Book Review: Poet Holly Pestor’s debut novel The Lodgers delivers a thoroughly rewarding read

The British author’s debut novel explores what it means to live and love within and outside of family structures

Holly Pestor explores the minor dramas of temporary living in her debut novel, The Lodgers

After a year away, a young woman returns to the small English coastal town where she grew up, a place she refers to as “the origin point of boredom”. But she is not returning to her childhood home, or the welcoming arms of a family who have missed her during her time away. Instead, she is sub-letting a bedroom in a jaded apartment block overlooking her mother Moffa’s house.
