Book Review: Novella collection from the writer of The Wire will scratch a crime fiction itch

Owning Up is a collection of four shortish novellas and the writer uses events from his life for material again in the second story, ‘The No-Knock’

George Pelecanos: better known for his television work

Pelecanos has been described by no less an authority than Stephen King as “perhaps the greatest living American crime writer” although his name may be more familiar through his TV work.

He wrote and produced seasons of celebrated drama The Wire as well as co-creating the lesser seen but equally great HBO series The Deuce and pitching in on Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks’ The Pacific. His most recent novel, 2018’s The Man Who Came Uptown, used the author’s own experience working in prison literacy programmes to tell the story of a con who finds redemption through the written word.
