Album reviews: Mahalia dishes out lovelorn summer soundtrack on new album IRL

With a Jamaican mother and British-Irish father who are both musicians, you would be correct to assume that Mahalia Burkmar has received a multicultural grounding in what might constitute a good tune. She wrote her first song at the age of eight, then five years later signed to a major record label and recorded songs for her debut album (2019’s Love and Compromise) while still a teenager.
