Varadkar right to blow the whistle

Leo Varadkar's brave and sensible comments have reignited the controversy over the treatment of the garda whistleblowers by their own superiors and by justice minister Alan Shatter.

Speaking at a road safety conference last week, Varadkar praised the whistleblowers and while reiterating support for the Garda Commissioner, said he is not above criticism. He said the Commissioner should withdraw his description of the whistleblowers' actions as ''disgusting.
