Taoiseach Bertie Ahern laid to rest some of the mystery surrounding his academic career last week, when he officially opened the new Rathmines Permanent/TSB branch.

The north Dublin Taoiseach was keen to point out that he spent several fruitful years studying accountancy at the College of Commerce in Rathmines, so he was well acquainted with Dublin's southside.

Interestingly, he made no reference to his controversial post-graduate qualification from the London School of Economics.
