Balmy autumn weather in September has made it tough for retailers to shift winter clothing stock.

People are buying “interim” clothing rather than winter stock, according to the deputy chief executive of Retail Excellence Ireland, Seán Murphy.

“It takes a weather change for people to change their clothing,” said Murphy. “I’m seeing short shirt sleeves where you haven’t seen that for a long time in Ireland.”
