A 1935 self-portrait by Harry Kernoff is one of the highlights of Loughlin Bowe's sale of the contents of four Irish country houses on October 23. In the current artists exemption debate, Kernoff would almost certainly support its retention.

Born in London, the son of a Russian-Jewish father and Spanish mother, Kernoff moved to Ireland when he was 14, but maintained close links with the Soviet Union.
