In the last few years, the government and the Pensions Board have run several high-profile campaigns to encourage more of the workforce to contribute to some form of private pension so they will not be entirely reliant on the state when they retire.
These campaigns have not yet lifted pension coverage in Ireland to the level the government would like, which is 70 per cent of the workforce. However, they certainly have raised awareness of the need to start contributing towards a pension sooner rather than later.
