Central Bank rolls out rounding up of small change in shops

Copper coins will be levelled up or down to nearest five cent

Small change for transactions in shops will be rounded up or down to the nearest five cent from next week.

The Central Bank has announced that next Wednesday, October 28, will be rollout day for rounding in Ireland, as part of its plan to reduce the need for one- and two-cent coins.

The announcement follows a successful trial run in Wexford in 2013.
