New Bank of England governor Mark Carney has rapidly demonstrated that his tenure at the central bank will be very different to that of Mervyn King.

Unlike his predecessor, who always travelled by car, on his first day at work last Monday, former Goldman Sachs banker Carney took the London Underground to work, despite easily being able to afford a personal driver on his £874,000 taxpayer-funded salary.
