For a long time, it looked as if Pat McQuaid would coast to another term as president of the international cycling body the UCI. Even last October, when Lance Armstrong bared his soul to Oprah Winfrey and revealed a decade of systematic and pervasive doping in the sport, McQuaid still looked a good bet to serve a second term.
