Crafted for you, and with you, it is the direct messaging of someone who values the big picture by focusing on the detail. Yet the perception of how tailoring works can sometimes be clouded by misunderstanding, from the pricing to the process.
Brown Thomas’ master tailor Dusko Starcevic knows as much as there is to know about made–to-measure, from the initial consultation to the final finished piece. He explains how it's done.
What is the main difference between getting a made-to-measure suit versus an off-the-rack option?
As the name suggests, a made-to-measure suit or garment is tailored to your body measurements. It is made to fit your body perfectly.
It is also a fantastic option if you need something for a special occasion as you can choose from a variety of fabrics and finishes. The result is that the garment will be unique. There is so much more choice.
How does the made-to-measure process start?
It all starts with an initial conversation over the phone or in-store, and we can then discuss which brand best suits your needs. This season we have the master tailors from Tom Ford, Corneliani, Zegna, Eton and Canali joining us in Brown Thomas Dublin. We then book you in for an appointment with one or even more of these tailors.
How long does it take?
Typically, the whole consultation takes under an hour. Creating the unique garment can take a few weeks but I can assure you it will be well worth it.
How many fittings/consultations are needed?
Just two. The initial measurements and choosing of fabrics, and then the collection.
Are there any restrictions on what you can ask for?
None in my experience. The fantastic thing about our Made-to-Measure event is the variety of visiting brands therefore the choice is vast. Almost everything can be catered for. Some of our brands will be offering customised knitwear, outerwear and footwear.
Can you re-order another suit in the same cut without being re-fit for it?
Yes, if you are confident that your body shape hasn't changed.
What other benefits are there, for example, adding individual elements, customisation etc?
You can choose many detailed options, the colour of the lining, the buttons, embroidered initials etc. The biggest benefit is reassurance. The reassurance in knowing that these trusted master tailors and ourselves at Brown Thomas are making your fashion desires a reality. The whole experience from start to finish is something to be enjoyed.
