Get the best skin of your life with the latest laser innovation

The BBL is one of the newest, most sophisticated laser treatments to launch here and it’s the most pain-free too

The BBL will correct any pigmentation issues and remove hyperpigmentation such as sunspots, age spots, brown spots, and dark spots and is perfect for pre-summer skin prep

Redness, swelling, painful procedures, unavoidable downtime – all these are considered almost synonymous with many laser treatments.

And yet, it is still one of the most effective ways to treat some of the most common skin concerns, including broken veins, scars, wrinkles and lines.

But as laser technology has progressed, there have been real breakthroughs not only in the efficacy of the machines but in minimising the troublesome side effects while continuing to give better results.

As the newest generation of targeted laser treatment, the BBL is a masterclass in doing just that. Created by US-based laser pioneers Sciton, it is already becoming the go-to laser treatment thanks to its remarkable benefits and state-of-the-art technology that offers a solution to multiple skin concerns.

What does it do?

The award-winning treatment improves the appearance of ageing skin and reduces rosacea, acne, melasma, fine lines and sunspots comfortably and with little to no downtime.

It is suitable for use on all parts of the body. This is a treatment designed for those suffering from redness and rosacea with the added benefit of increasing collagen production which will in turn improve skin tone and texture.

The BBL will also correct any pigmentation issues and remove hyperpigmentation such as sunspots, age spots, brown spots, and dark spots.

What’s involved?

The treatment works by directing broad-spectrum light at the skin to either break apart pigment or stimulate the production of new collagen, generating increased elasticity and a smoother, more even complexion.

What makes Sciton’s technology so advanced is it enables broadband light to be directed to the skin more quickly and intensely than other technologies on the market, which means it is safer and more results-driven.

What does it feel like?

Typically each session lasts 40 minutes, at the beginning of which the therapist applies a soothing lubricating gel, before passing the BBL handpiece over any concerned areas on the face.

And while there is a mild warming sensation on the skin, because it is so targeted and quick, there is no real sustained feeling of discomfort.

The BBL device comes with a cooling plate too so the skin is naturally cooled and calmed as it goes meaning any redness or irritation caused by the procedure is greatly minimised.

What can I expect after?

Immediately following the treatment, any pigmented or vascular lesions will usually darken, meaning that the light has successfully treated them, and they should fade or even disappear some weeks after.

At least two treatments are advised, with three needed for those with more heightened redness or capillaries. What’s more, the BBL can be combined with other Sciton treatments such as HALO, another form of laser that works to improve overall glow.

In terms of results, you will see an improvement in the skin texture within weeks, as well as a reduction in fine lines, wrinkles and pigmentation.

Treatments are usually spread four weeks apart, and once you’ve completed your course, results will last up to 12 months, with an annual top-up recommended to refresh the skin.

The BBL laser is available only from Laser + Skin Clinic, Athlone at €450 per treatment, with a BBL Corrective Package Face (course 3+1) for €1,350. A Forever Clear BBL course of six treatments priced at €1,800. laserandskin.ie
