First look: Malahide’s new jewellery atelier brings luxe goldsmithing to the coast

Brothers David and Barry McCaul of McCaul Goldsmiths open their new atelier in the aptly-named Diamond in Malahide

Brothers Barry and David McCaul are opening a new atelier in Malahide which offers customers a first-hand glimpse at the in-house crafting process

After more than a decade in London, goldsmithing brothers David and Barry McCaul are expanding their Irish offering with a brand new atelier in the coastal town of Malahide.

The new space (in the aptly-named ‘The Diamond’ on main street) provides customers with the opportunity to witness first-hand their pieces being handcrafted at the goldsmithing benches. You can observe the traditional goldsmithing techniques and modern technology the McCaul brothers utilise to design, make, and set each piece from start to finish in-house.

Impeccably crafted, curvaceous, and sculptural jewellery are signature to McCaul Goldsmiths. From their unique Aegis hand-carved rings to the popular Fairtrade collection, customers will have a chance to browse through existing McCaul collections and also meet the makers to create their own bespoke pieces across fine jewellery and wedding and engagement rings.

Appointments can be made in the new Dublin atelier for bespoke jewellery pieces

The impressive range of previously-commissioned bespoke jewellery range from white diamond engagement rings to sapphire, cognac, cocktail and the rising market of men’s wedding bands.

“Having been brought up just a little further down the coast in Portmarnock this feels like a sort of homecoming for us. Malahide is such a fantastic town and has so much to offer any visitor. We are truly delighted to be joining this vibrant community and look forward to showing our new workshop and atelier space to our customers, old and new,” Barry McCaul said.

Leveraging the experience of setting up a store in London’s Exmouth Market in 2009 helped to crystallise exactly how the Malahide atelier should look and feel, the pair said, after spending six months conceptualising the space.
