Cillian Murphy joins Anne Hathaway as new face of Versace as debut collection campaign released

The campaign features a behind the scenes video of Murphy modelling Versace’s new line to the soundtrack of Dublin post-punk band Fontaines D.C

Murphy takes the forefront for this year's men's collection, marking his first brand deal with a luxury fashion house

Cillian Murphy has debuted as the new official face of Versace with the launch of the Italian luxury house’s new collection campaign, Icons.

The Oscar-winning star joins Anne Hathaway as the official face and ambassador of the brand. Hathaway led the women's collection for Versace Icons last spring, while Murphy takes the forefront for this year's men's collection, marking his first brand deal with a luxury fashion house.

“I am thrilled that Cillian is joining the Versace family. He is truly exceptional and totally deserves his Oscar win. He is magnetic and mesmerising in front of a camera and I loved seeing him bring Versace to life,” brand founder and designer Donatella Versace said of the partnership.

The collaboration comes just after Murphy scooped up his first Oscar last month, accepting the award for Best Actor for his lead role in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, to which he wore a custom-made Atelier Versace suit. The Oscar win marked the first time an Irish-born actor won a Best Actor Oscar at the Academy Awards.

The collection's campaign draws inspiration from Versace's iconic 1990s commercial, showing Murphy in a behind the scenes video of the shoot, which went live yesterday and can be watched on Versace’s website.

"I avoid the monitor when I'm making films, because it's a different character, you know? You never want to affect the journey,” Murphy says in the campaign video.

The campaign’s soundtrack features a clip from Boys in the Better Land by Dublin post-punk band Fontaines D.C – chosen by Murphy himself.

"Collaborating with Donatella – from sharing image references to selecting the music of Fontaines D.C. for the video – resulted in a campaign that reflects who I am. The collection of well cut, empowering designs made from great fabric suits me perfectly,” Murphy said in a recent statement.

“When I saw Cillian on the set of the shoot, I saw the Versace man in him right away. Strong, direct and iconic,” Donatella Versace said in a series of posts promoting the campaign

The new collection offers a “complete wardrobe of daily staples including tailoring, denim, knitwear, shoes, bags, and accessories with immediately recognisable House codes” according to Versace’s website.

In a series of Instagram posts following the launch of the collection, Donatella wrote: “When I saw Cillian on the set of the shoot, I saw the Versace man in him right away. Strong, direct and iconic. Cillian is one of today’s best actors and I admire and respect him so much.”
