Tens of thousands of consumers have signed up for health insurance products in a bid to beat higher prices for those over 34.

Under the new rules, known as lifetime community rating (LCR), which kicked in last Friday, people who are 35 or over when they first take out health insurance face a loading of 2 per cent per year.
