Trusteeship and higher standards of pensions scheme governance

Behind every pension scheme is an important, but often misunderstood figure: the trustee. Now the Pensions Authority wants them to up their game, writes Jason Walsh

The Pensions Authority July 2016 consultation paper, on the reform and simplification of Ireland’s pension’s landscape, had the key objective of providing better outcomes for members of pension schemes.

Effectively, the Pensions Authority has weighed in on the number of schemes it has to monitor and those people who are charged with the onerous tasks of overseeing the governance of the pension schemes; that is, trustees.
