Pick of the week: Significant Stuart silver tankard shines out at auction
One of 78 such tankards in Ireland, the rare piece is by silversmith Thomas Bolton
Collectors of Irish silver should take note of Lot 400, a rare and early tankard by Thomas Bolton (circa 1701/1705) which is being offered by Chiswick Auctions, London, on October 11.
It is recorded as one of 78 tankards from the Stuart period (between the accession of James I and the death of Queen Anne) in Ireland by expert and historian Tony Sweeney in his book Irish Stuart Silver.
