The UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School MSc in Project Management has been developing professionals in the discipline since 2006. Delivered 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time, the programme was specifically designed, in consultation with a wide variety of organizations, to meet the needs of full-time students who wish to enter the employment market following a primary degree, as well as working professionals who want to boost their current project management skills & career progress.

In December 2018 the UCD Smurfit School was ranked 23rd in the 2018 Financial Times' ranking of European Business Schools. UCD Smurfit School is also the only school in Ireland to hold the ‘triple crown’ of accreditation from AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA – an accolade accomplished by only 82 other schools worldwide.

The Smurfit MSc in Project Management develops its graduates with skills and knowledge that can be applied directly into the workplace. The part time programme is delivered 2 evenings a week during the 12 week college terms, with the schedule spread across 2 years to facilitate continued employment.

David Deally, Professional Engineer at ESB International completed the programme in 2018:"The part-time MSc in Project Management at UCD Michael Smurfit Business School fit into my busy work schedule, allowing me to upskill in PM techniques at a pace that suited my needs. The course content, lecturers and assignments were always engaging and provided me with the skills to elevate my career in Engineering."

Part time students year after year report that the materials encountered in the classroom are typically taken straight back and applied to great effect in their roles, allowing them to become more effective in their jobs from very early on in the programme. Many students find that they are promoted or move positions during the course of the 2 years they are at studying at Smurfit School.

Ray Cullen, Category Manager at Eir Ireland commented recently “Completing the MSc in Project Management in Smurfit was one of the most rewarding challenges of my life. Every aspect of the course, from the beautiful campus to the high quality and experience of the teaching staff contributed to make this course a life changing experience. I have already secured a new role since graduating with a 40% increase in my salary.

Alan Macken, Clinical Trials Project Co-ordinator at UCD School of Medicine, like many students, had to balance work, study and family life:The two years I was undertaking the part-time course flew by. Thinking what best summed up the course and Smurfit, three words came to mind: stimulating, flexible and enabling. The course work was challenging and highly relevant with real world group work scenarios. Having to work closely with fellow students brought project management theory into sharp practice. The nature of the part-time course gave me the flexibility to balance coursework, the demands of a full-time job and the changes involved in starting a new family. Coming from a non-business background, attending Smurfit gave me the confidence to undertake study in a new discipline with accessible and engaging lecturers.
