Top ISIA awards go to childhood cancer and women’s charities
Yearly Irish Security Industry Association awards celebrate outstanding people and companies working in private security
A charity that supported a brave 17-year-old who died on July 24 after battling diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) was presented with the Irish Security Industry Association’s (ISIA) courage accolade, sponsored by OCS, at the 2023 awards ceremony on November 25 in Carton House.
Oscar’s Kids received the ISIA’s Courage Award in honour of the late Keeley Durnan, beloved daughter of Alan Durnan, a past president of the ISIA, and Eimear Brogan. The teenager was remembered as an incredibly kind, brave, strong, funny, loving, beautiful and utterly inspirational young woman.
The premier award, the Paul Lynch Memorial Trophy, sponsored by Mitie, went to Ruhama, an Irish NGO and registered charity that provides free confidential support to women impacted by prostitution, sex trafficking and other forms of commercial sexual exploitation.
In its recent annual report, Ruhama reported a spike in the numbers requiring its support, with a significant increase in victims of trafficking. With the introduction of anti-trafficking training by the Private Security Authority (PSA), the ISIA hopes that its members may be able to make a small contribution to this work. The trophy is in honour of Paul Lynch who died suddenly at the age of 38 during his term as president of the ISIA.
Thirteen other awards were presented by the ISIA which last year celebrated its 50th anniversary. Colm O’Regan was MC at this year’s gathering which had Provincial as sponsor.
Gill O’Riordan, president of the ISIA, said it meant so much to the ISIA to celebrate outstanding people and companies working in private security.
“Our members are always striving to attract the best people to their industry to manage risk and ensure security up and down the state. I would like to thank all sponsors of the ISIA Awards. It is your support that allows us to celebrate the people of our industry and to attract new talent,’ she said.
