Waterford Greenway is continuing to boost local businesses as more cyclists visit Dungarvan and surrounds Jenny Beresford, CEO of Dungarvan and West Waterford Chamber, said the significance of the cycle path’s impact on local businesses has seen big expansion efforts in some areas, with one restaurant increasing its seating numbers from 30 to 180.

“The transformative impact of initiatives like the Waterford Greenway cannot be overstated,” she said. “Beyond offering recreational pleasures, the Greenway has catalysed a wave of innovative and commercial ventures around Dungarvan which has enriched the local tourism experience.

One particular local business has expanded three times since its opening.”

Waterford Greenway stretches for 46 kilometres from the city to the seaside town of Dungarvan. The off-road cycling and walking trails crosses eleven bridges, three viaducts, and a 400 metre long tunnel, along the banks of the Suir.

“It’s proudly referred to by locals as the ‘Home of the Greenway’, and Dungarvan is infused with a palpable energy and warm hospitality,” said Beresford.

She added that the Greenway is one of several initiatives in place to support the business community, with the local Chamber working with businesses in the region.

“The Chamber represents a membership base of over 340 businesses, collectively employing approximately 4,600 individuals,” she said. “It actively supports a diverse range of businesses in the region, from sole traders to large multinational corporations, covering areas such as Kilmacthomas, Ring, Ardmore, Lismore, Cappoquin, and Dungarvan.

We comprehend the challenges faced at every stage of the business journey and tirelessly works to overcome local and national barriers, effectively promoting Dungarvan and West Waterford as an outstanding place to live, work, and foster sustainable business growth across all sectors.
