Comment: Parts of US are on same pandemic path as developing world

Covid-19 is sweeping through developing countries, many of which lack the resources to stay locked down while the virus is spreading, but the US has no such excuse for allowing the crisis to spiral out of control

The Covid-19 pandemic arrived in waves, starting in Asia, where it quickly spread from mainland China to South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

These governments all reacted quickly with aggressive tracking, tracing and containment programmes, and China induced a massive but short-lived economic contraction to stop the virus more or less in its tracks.
