What some in the media like to describe as a “spat” between Britain and Ireland over immigration/asylum continues. The job of an Ambassador in such cases – and I’ve had a few – is to keep your own head down and to seek to keep the temperature down, too. To that end, breakfast with a cabinet Minister, then calls to officials in London and Dublin.
