It’s been six years since Matt Reeves’ reboot of the venerable Planet of the Apes franchise concluded with a trilogy-ending, CGI-heavy instalment that alone took almost half a billion dollars at the international box office. That kind of monkey business was unlikely to remain dormant forever.

No stranger to chain-linked cinema after guiding three Maze Runner films to the screen, director and producer Wes Ball makes a significant step forward with Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, a standalone sequel and the tenth film adapted from Pierre Boulle’s 1963 sci-fi novel.
