Unemployment rises to 4.8%

Rate has been on a modest incline since August

The sharp rise may have occurred earlier in the year than the October numbers indicate

The unemployment rate in Ireland rose to 4.8 per cent in October, according to new data released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

This is up from 4.7 per cent in September, and further increase on August’s rate of 4.5 per cent.

Unemployment reached a peak of 7.6 per cent in March 2021, when Covid-19 restrictions were still in place.
